What is cultural awareness?

ITS strives to develop and promote a positive work environment that is "culturally aware". ITS staff are equipped with the skills to actively and positively promote and acknowledge the core values and beliefs of the university.

Cultural Awareness Objectives

  • A high performing culture
  • Helping people to fulfil themselves at work
  • Teams that work towards shared goals
  • Reward and recognise the values of UQ

Within ITS, a Culture Awareness Group has been established to assist the development of a positive and high performing culture that acknowledges contributions across the division.

The group will facilitate activities that aim to broaden understanding of our roles and to promote recognition in line with the UQ values. Recognition will be based on a nomination from a colleague and winners will be announced twice a year.

To promote sharing, the group will be introducing and facilitating Fika sessions across ITS.

Fika is a Swedish concept where groups come together over coffee, to share and learn more about their colleagues, and what they do within the organisation. The sessions will be quite informal and hopefully fun.
