You must be in range of UQ's wireless network, eduroam, to complete the following steps. You must be a UQ staff member or UQ student with valid UQ username and password.

If eduroam is rejecting your username/password ensure that your username is in the format username@uq.edu.au.

Windows 8

This process can take some time and it is not unusual to see a message 'This is taking longer than expected'.

Step 1: Click 'Wireless Network Connections' on the Task Bar.

  • Click [ eduroam ]
  • Select 'Connect Automatically'
  • Click [ Connect ]

Step 2: Enter your username and password

  • Check that 'Use my Windows user account' is unticked
  • Enter your username in the following format: username@uq.edu.au (for UQ Accounts) and your password
  • Click [ OK ]

Note: If eduroam is rejecting your username/password ensure that your username is in the format username@uq.edu.au.

Step 3: Connect

  • Click [ Connect ]
  • You should now be able to browse the internet via the wireless network, eduroam

Windows 7

UQ Staff will first need to Download the Windows 7 installer. Click here to download the file. After downloading the .zip file, extract the contents of the file to your computer and double-click the executable file.

UQ Students please proceed to Step 1.

Step 1: Connect to the eduroam wireless connection

  • Click 'Wireless Network Connections' on the Task Bar.

  • Click [ eduroam ]

Step 2: Enter your username and password

  • Enter your username in the following format: username@uq.edu.au (for UQ Accounts) and your password
  • Click [ OK ]
  • You should now be able to browse the internet via the wireless network, eduroam

Note: If eduroam is rejecting your username/password ensure that your username is in the format username@uq.edu.au.

OS X

Step 1: Connect to the eduroam wireless connection

  • Click the wireless icon in the top right hand corner of your screen
  • Click [ eduroam ] from the available list of network connections

Step 2: Enter your username and password

  • Enter your username in the following format: username@uq.edu.au (for UQ Accounts) and your password
  • Click [ Join ]

Step 3: Trust Certificate

  • You will be prompted to accept the certificate
  • Click [ Continue ]
  • You may be asked for the administrator password for your local computer. Enter the normal password you use to log on to the computer
  • You should now be able to browse the internet via the wireless network, eduroam

Windows Phone

Step 1: Connect to the eduroam wireless connection

  • Open the 'Settings' application on your phone
  • Select 'Wi-Fi'
  • Click [ eduroam ] from the available list of network connections

Step 2: Enter your username and password

  • Enter your username in the following format: username@uq.edu.au (for UQ Accounts) and your password
  • Click [ Done ]
  • You'll be returned to the network selection screen, and the text underneath the eduroam network should read 'connected'
  • You should now be able to browse the internet via the wireless network, eduroam

Note: If eduroam is rejecting your username/password ensure that your username is in the format username@uq.edu.au.

Apple iDevice (iPhone, iPad, iPod)

Step 1: Connect to the eduroam wireless connection

  • Open the 'Settings' application on your phone
  • Select [ Wi-Fi ]
  • Select the [ eduroam ] network

Step 2: Enter your username and password

  • Enter your username in the following format: username@uq.edu.au (for UQ Accounts) and your password
  • Click [ Join ]

Note: If eduroam is rejecting your username/password ensure that your username is in the format username@uq.edu.au.

Step 3: Trust the Certificate

You will be shown the eduroam.uq.edu.au certificate

  • Click [ Trust ] or [ Accept ] (varies on some devices)

  • You'll be returned to the 'Wi-Fi' screen, and the eduroam network should appear with a tick to indicate it is connected
  • You should now be able to browse the internet via the wireless network, eduroam

Android Devices

Please note that due to a wide range of Android versions and different Android devices, the specific details for your device may differ slightly.

Step 1: Connect to the eduroam wireless connection

  • Go to 'Settings' and select [ Wifi ]
  • Click [ eduroam ] from the available list of network connections

Step 2: Enter your username and password

  • You may be asked for some additional settings. Please ensure your settings match those listed below:
    Network SSID: eduroam (all lowercase)
    Security: 802.x EAP
    EAP Method: PEAP. If your version of Android does not allow you to select PEAP, please select TTLS.
    Phase 2 Authentication: none
    CA certificate: (unspecified)
    User certificate: (unspecified)
    Identify: yourusername@uq.edu.au eg.s123456@uq.edu.au
    Anonymous Identity: none
    Password: your password
  • Click [ Connect ]
  • You should now be able to browse the internet via the wireless network, eduroam

Other Devices

Step 1: Connect to the eduroam wireless connection

  • Select 'eduroam' from your devices wireless connection options

Step 2: Enter your username and password

  • You may be asked for some additional settings. Please ensure your settings match those listed below:
    Network SSID: eduroam (all lowercase)
    Security: 802.x EAP
    EAP Method: TTLS
    Phase 2 Authentication: PAP
    CA certificate: (unspecified)
    User certificate: (unspecified)

  • Click [ Connect ]
