ITAM - IT Asset Management (Central Funded)
What is it?
ITAM is the new IT Asset Management tool at UQ designed to provide centralised and accurate reporting on assets and licences. This enables UQ to improve purchasing efficiencies and create savings. You may hear ITAM being referred to as Flexera because the software program is manufactured by Flexera.
Software Asset Management
ITAM will allow UQ to compare the software licences we have purchased against the software applications installed on our computers. This will identify excess software purchases or under-licensing, and enable us to rectify any inconsistencies. Faculties, centres or institutes will also access better prices through coordinating volume purchases and reduce overspending on unused licences.
ITAM will not track what the software is used for, provide access to documents, or monitor web browsing. There is no risk to the security or privacy of information.
Hardware Asset Management
IT delegates from faculties, centres or institutes will be able to view their IT purchases as all IT purchase details are imported from Unifi. As well as licence compliance, ITAM has the potential to track hardware, including hardware models, hardware details, serial numbers, plus warranty and hardware maintenance dates. Accurate hardware reports will reduce response times and provide more seamless IT delivery between UQ departments, end users, desktop support teams and finance groups.
How do I get access?
ITS and participating faculties, centres and institutes are now implementing ITAM and all remaining organisational units are encouraged to join. ITS has purchased a perpetual license and is funding the annual mainenance, support and updates; there is no cost recovery planned from participating organisational units.
Organisational units not currently using the ITAM product can request access by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. Once requested, you will be given access to the test system, and you will be invited to basic training, sessions starting in June 2014. There are monthly meetings of the organisational units using ITAM that you are welcome to attend. New users will be added to the live system in a staged process over the coming months. This will ensure that the extra load generated does not cause issues.
