Microsoft software products at UQ are covered under several different licence agreements. Most products are centrally funded and available for UQ-owned computers at no charge.

What is included?

The following products are for UQ computers only:

Purchase of additional products for UQ computers

Some Microsoft products need to be purchased through UniFi for each computer the software will be installed on.

The following products require a UniFi purchase:

  • Project 2016 Standard
  • Project 2016 Professional
  • Project 2016 Server and Client Access Licences (CALs)
  • Visio 2016 Standard
  • Visio 2016 Professional
  • SQL Server 2014 Standard
  • SQL Server 2014 Enterprise
  • Visual Studio Pro 2015.

Pricing for these products is available on UniFi. The licences are perpetual and do not include upgrades. Each licence allows installation on one device.

Include the following information on your UniFi purchase:

  • name of user
  • phone number, and
  • computer name for remote deployment purposes.

Who can use Microsoft software at UQ?

Software covered under Microsoft Agreements is available to UQ organisational units whose staff are considered full-time equivalent in the count submitted to the government each year.

UQ-affiliated organisations that aren't listed on our agreement are not covered for use of this software or access to systems that use this software.

Home use for staff

  • Staff who are included in the full-time equivalent count may purchase Windows or Office for use on private computers for UQ-related work.
  • If you cease employment at UQ you are no longer licensed to use this software. It must be removed from your home computer. 
  • A free copy of Office 365 is also available. 

Home use for students

A free copy of Office 365 is available through UQ.

Conditions of use

  • For University of Queensland academic, administrative and research purposes only.
  • Home use by eligible staff is provided primarily for academic, administrative and research purposes, and use of the software on home computers is limited to work-related and/or skills development purposes only.
  • The software cannot be used for commercial and/or business purposes.

How do I install software on UQ computers?

Staff using computers managed by ITS can self-install selected software applications using the Microsoft Software Centre.

Alternatively for UQ computers, please contact your local IT support team. If you’re unsure who that is, contact the ITS Service Desk.
