If you receive an "unidentified developer" error while trying to install an application on Mac OS X, for example:

You will need to modify your application installation preferences in the System Preferences area. Follow these steps to allow software to be installed.

1. Open System Preferences

  • Select the System Preferences icon from the dock, as shown below.

If the System Preferences icon cannot be located in your dock;

  • Click the Apple icon in the top left corner of your screen
  • Select System Preferences as shown below.
