Why do new UQ ITS guidelines recommend all staff turn off their computer at least once every week and reboot?
Shutting down saves memory, allowing your computer to run faster. Scheduling regular restarts also means updates do not stack up, and the time required to complete them will be minimum – avoiding extended delay to your workflow.
Regular updates better protect your machine from malicious attacks.
Shutting your PC off over the weekend saves power.
ITS recommends setting a reminder in your calendar to shutdown when you leave for the week, and reboot upon your return to work, because your PC needs a weekend too.
