B-Line is a program that lets medical and nursing students record and review interactions with patients.

There are two B-Line systems:

B-Line can only be accessed from computers connected to the UQ network. If you're off-campus, connect to the VPN (virtual private network) to access B-Line.

To maintain patient confidentiality, always select 'Stop Session' and log out of B-Line when you have finished your session.

Recording a new session

1. Go to the B-Line LiveCapture or B-Line SimCapture site, and log in with your UQ username and password. If you can't log in, contact the ITS Service Desk.

2. Click 'Start / Join Session', then click the required B-Line recording system and then 'Done'.

3. You can either:

  • Select a preconfigured scenario from the 'Select Scenario' drop-down menu, or
  • Create a new scenario by choosing 'Select Scenario' then 'None – Enter Name Below'.

4. Tick the boxes to select the cameras you want to use for the recording.

If you receive a 'No Video Inputs Found' error message, use the touch panel or controller in the simulation room to turn on the AV system, then choose the refresh icon.

5. Use the AV touch panel or remote control in the room to position the cameras correctly. Camera positions can be changed during recording.

6. Select the people participating in the recording from the list of registered B-Line users. Assign a 'Participant Type' using the drop-down menu next to each name.

7. Select 'Start Session' to continue.

8. Select 'Start Recording' to begin recording your session.

9. Use 'Annotate' to mark significant events on the recording's timeline. You can do this at any point in the recording session. You can also choose from a list under the 'Predefined Annotations' tab.

10. Select 'Stop Session' to stop recording and finalise the session.

The 'Leave Session' option does not finalise the session. The session will remain active, and other users will be blocked from using B-Line if you select this option at the end of your session. For this reason, make sure you select 'Stop Session' at the end of your session.
