Export your email using Outlook for Mac 2016

An archive file in Outlook 2016 for Mac is a .olm file that you can save to any location on your Mac or on a different machine for safekeeping. You can export your email, contacts, calendars, tasks, or notes to the .olm archive file.

NOTE: This will back up your emails to a .olm file; .olm files are only compatible with Outlook for Mac. It is recommended that if you have access to Windows Outlook you follow the Export Emails in Windows guide and save it as a .pst, as .pst files can be imported to both Windows and Mac Versions of Outlook.

1. Creating the Archive

  • In the Tools tab, click Export.

  • Check the items you want to export, and click Continue.

  • Rename the file if required and choose where you want to save the file. Be sure to make note of where you save the file, as you will need to find it later for Importing.

  • A notification will appear when your data has been exported. Click Finish.
