This guide will show you the correct way to Open and close Outlook Data Files (.pst) in Outlook 2013 or 2016.

1. Open an Outlook Data File (.pst)

  • Open Outlook, and click the File tab.

  • Click Open & ExportOpen Outlook Data File.

NOTE: Depending on how Outlook is set up, it's likely the folder where the .pst file is stored will open automatically. If it doesn't, browse to the file's location.

  • Choose the Outlook Data File (.pst), and then click Open.
  • In the Outlook Data File folder—typically at the bottom of your Folder pane—choose the folder you want to open.
