Free software on personal computers

Current UQ students have free access to software on their personal computer.


How to access free software

1.            Head to student.licencing.its.uq.edu.au to choose your software.

2.            Follow the directions received via email to download.

  • You must be a current UQ student
  • Do not download this software on a UQ owned computer. Contact help@its.uq.edu.au to request this.

Skype

Skype requires your student email address and your student email password. Do not provide your UQ student username and password.

Free voice and video calls to anyone else on Skype, whether they're on an Android, iPhone, Mac or PC, as well as IMs to your friends and family, no matter where they are. Skype is available to all UQ Students using your @uqconnect.edu.au username and Password.

Linking your account to Skype

When you attempt to sign in for the first time with your UQ Student email and password, Skype will offer you to create a new account or link to a pre-existing account.

Clicking on I have a Skype account will merge your contacts with your Skype contacts. Clicking on I'm new to Skype will step you through a registration form to create a new Skype account.

OneDrive

OneDrive is not available as part of the free student Office 365 suite. However, you can create a personal Microsoft account or link an existing one with the Office programs so you can save to OneDrive.

Creating a personal Microsoft account gives you 5 GB of free storage in OneDrive.

To link OneDrive to a Microsoft application (e.g. Word):

  1. Open the Microsoft application
  2. Click File
  3. Click Account
  4. Click Add a service > Storage > OneDrive
  5. Sign in with your personal Microsoft account.

Some other free alternatives are: Dropbox (3 GB) and Google Drive (15 GB).
