How to install Xest in your teaching space

Please contact AV Support & Integartion via help@its.uq.edu.au with a list of all the hostnames you require to install the software on along with whether they are a teacher or student and the room they are in. This is so that they can be added to the configuration database.

Xest - Teacher

Step 1

(Xest Teacher Install- files located at: \\rms1.soe.uq.edu.au\Xest\Xest Teacher)

Copy Xest Teacher folder to C:\Xest Teacher

Step 2

Run Xest Teacher as administrator for first run.

Step 3

Allow c:\Xest Teacher\Xest Teacher.exe Windows firewall access if used (prompts on first run – see attached “Xest Teacher.png” for Windows firewall rules)

Step 4

Place shortcut to Xest Teacher.exe in C:\users\Public\Desktop

Note: If you try to run Xest Student or Xest Teacher and the PCs hostname isn’t in the config database, you will receive an error stating this and be unable to run the software.

Other requirements:

  • Xest works using multicast so this will need to be enabled in the room.
  • Xest needs to read configuration database located at \\rms1.soe.uq.edu.au\Xest - if you can browse to this folder from the lab PCs there shouldn’t be any issues with this
