Connectivity to the resolving name server rns1.uq.edu.au has been restored and services are operational. Connectivity was lost for a prolonged period of time due a planned network switch upgrade and reload which did not go according to plan. A future planned migration to the new resolving name server configuration was brought forward in an effort to minimise any further interruptions to the service while network engineers are diagnosing faults on the switch.

Internet services have been restored but are routing over the backup path. The firewall was found to be the cause of the problem; it has now recovered. Change-management process is underway to fail traffic back over to the primary side tonight at 9:00pm. A post-incident investigation is underway.

At 12:04pm UQs primary internet path was changed from the primary gateway1 to the backup gateway3 bypassing the failed firewall device. We understand that this has restored Internet services. We are currently working to establish the cause of the fault.

1. rename ITS-MS folder across all vCenters to ITS-AA (Application administration). this has been already done.
2. Create the following new folders, ITS-RI (research Infrastructure), ITS-IdM (identity management), ITS-IS (infrastructure services). already done.
3. obtains new AD group for each team from managers. (This groups will provide access to VMs)
4. move all FIT VMs to ITS-AA.
5. move science VMS to ITS-RI

Oracle patch engineers are still working on patching the databases and infiniband network Despite this, there is no expected impact to any production databases. Oracle patching engineers have hit an active bug when applying the patches to the database (Bug 25707907). A safe workaround will be enabled without any loss of service or data.
