SPSS Statistics is a software package used for statistical analysis such as:
Descriptive statistics: Cross tabulation, Frequencies, Descriptives, Explore, Descriptive Ratio Statistics
Bivariate statistics: Means, t-test, ANOVA, Correlation (bivariate, partial, distances), Nonparametric tests
Prediction for numerical outcomes: Linear regression
Prediction for identifying groups: Factor analysis, cluster analysis, discriminant

Who can use it?

The SPSS site licence is central funded and is available to all UQ owned or leased computers for non commercial use at no charge.


Conditions of Use

Use of SPSS is limited to Teaching and Non-Commercial Academic Research on computers owned or leased by UQ. A limited number of staff home use licences are also available, see the Home Use for Staff section below for details.

Non-commercial academic research means research by degree seeking students and faculty members where (i) the results of such research are not intended primarily for the benefit of a third party; (ii) such results are made available to anyone without restriction on use, copying or further distribution; and (iii) any copy of any such result is furnished for no more than the cost of hosting, reproduction, and shipping.

Home use for Staff

Staff home use is only permitted for paid UQ Faculty Staff/employees on a single privately owned computer at their principal place of residence.  Staff home use licences are limited in number and must be requested from https://software.licensing.its.uq.edu.au/ each year. 

Faculty staff using SPSS at home are subject to the same restrictions listed above under Conditions of Use. 

Home use for Students

Students are not permitted use UQ's SPSS licence at home or on privately-owned computers.

Students wishing to use SPSS on their own computers can purchase an SPSS Graduate pack from Hearne Software


Licencing Information

The SPSS license is central funded and renewed annually.

Expiry date is 31st October each year.  If the license is not renewed before the expiry date the software will cease to operate until new renewal codes have been supplied.

How do I obtain a copy of the software?

Staff using UQ computers managed by ITS can self-install this software application using the Microsoft Software Centre.
