After connecting to the VPN, I cannot access the Internet

Please try closing your browser, disconnecting from the VPN, reconnecting to the VPN, then opening your browser. If your issues persist please call the helpdesk.

When trying to connect to the VPN I receive an error

Please try rebooting your computer, uninstalling and reinstalling the VPN client, and checking your username and password are correct. If your issues persist please call the helpdesk.

Is the VPN client available for my operating system?

The list of available VPN clients are located in the user guides, if your operating system is not there, please use a Cisco client available for your system, and import the quick configuration file availalable in the user guide section.

While connected to the VPN from home do I need to follow the UQ internet code of practice?

Yes, any sites or resources accessed whilst connected to the VPN must comply with theĀ UQ Internet Code of Practice. It is recommended that users only connect to the VPN service while they are accessing resources on the UQ network that are not accessible by other means.

Will connecting to the VPN and accessing the internet from home use up my quota?

Yes, any sites or resources accessed whilst connected to the VPN will use up both your home internet quota, and you UQ allocated quota. It is recommended that users only connect to the VPN service while they are accessing resources on the UQ network that are not accessible by other means.

Do I need to connect to the VPN to access ejournals?

Yes. Many resources such as ejournals via the Library website require authentication through the UQ network. To achieve this while not on campus, users must be connected via a VPN.

Why can't I access my home printer/server/other resource while I'm connected to the VPN?

While connected to the VPN, all traffic is sent via the VPN tunnel. It is recommended that users only connect to the VPN service while they are accessing resources on the UQ network that are not accessible by other means.
